Newborn photography is a popular trend that has been gaining popularity over the past few years. It is the art of capturing those early moments of a baby’s life, which are fleeting and precious. Whether you’re a new parent or already have four children at home, there are numerous reasons why you should consider scheduling a newborn photography session even if it’s already been a month since your new addition has made their arrival.

When I was pregnant with my first child I was over the moon with excitement and preparation that I let the moment pass me by in scheduling a newborn photography session. I had researched a bit but the sticker shock got the best of me and I figured I could do it all on my own. I had a nice camera, a tripod with a remote to be in some photos, and figured it would be find. After seeing a few of my friends’ newborn sessions with another photographer in the room it made me realize there’s something to be said for letting someone else take the reigns when you’re busy with a newborn and somewhat sleep deprived.

So why schedule a newborn session? Newborn photography captures the essence of your baby’s innocence and pureness. You know… before the terrible threes take hold and you get sass morning, noon, and night. The first few weeks of a baby’s life are filled with new experiences, emotions, and sensations. Capturing these moments through photography is a great way to preserve them forever. These photos serve as a reminder of how small and delicate your little one was during their first few weeks of life.

My favorite part of newborn sessions is capturing those precious moments between you and your little one. By having newborn photos taken with your completed family, you have a chance to bond with your baby and get that feeling of connection caught on camera. The photo session provides an opportunity for you to cuddle, hold, and love on your new addition while creating memories that will last a lifetime. These moments are especially important for parents who have had a difficult pregnancy or childbirth experience and want a moment to take in the moment and connect with their little one.

Besides all the lovey dovey moments that come with having your photos taken during the newborn stage, you also jumpstart the opportunity to document your baby’s growth and development. Babies grow and change so quickly during their first year of life and this stage is only a small part of their journey. Scheduling a newborn photography session creates a starting point to compare your baby’s milestones and growth over the next year. You can even continue to schedule photography session throughout their first year of life to capture their personality and milestones as they grow.

Side note: By happenstance, after I took my daughter’s newborn photos, I was randomly working on my photography skills around the time she turned three months so I luckily caught that three month change. After realizing what I did, I also took photos at six and nine months before taking her first birthday photos and it is amazing to see the progression of growth throughout that first year. Beyond newborn photos, I highly recommend finding the time to capture your baby’s first year at three, six, and nine months!

In my opinion, all photography is significant in its own right but newborn photography carries a greater weight since our littles are only little for so long. Photographing your bundle of joy to capture those early moment of your baby’s life is beneficial and meaningful in a way that is indescribable and irreplaceable. Even if your schedule a session up to a month after birth, you can still capture the innocence and pureness of your little one, bond with your baby, include your family in the photos, and document your baby’s growth and development. These photos are a treasure that you and your family will cherish for years to come. Get in touch here to schedule your newborn session and I can’t wait to see you on the other side of the lens!
