In last week’s blog, I talked about how to time your spring family sessions. Again I say… In Wisconsin there’s no such thing as great timing when it comes to planning for spring weather. There’s just pure, dumb luck. This engagement session was no different… we lucked out that there were some beautiful trees in bloom. However, since this beautiful couple was getting married in June, we didn’t have time to play with the timeline for the sessions. We ended up planning for Wehr Nature Center and their open field that is absolutely gorgeous at sunset!
Well, things went a little differently that anticipated… We had an overcast day so no sunset. The tall grass field was partially mowed over so no beautiful framing. Wisconsin weather was still refusing to let spring set in so no buds or leaves on trees. So why am I talking about this engagement session today? Because what we did get, were some beautiful surprises that early spring can offer you for a photo session.

While there was no sunset, we had even lighting throughout this beautiful couple's entire session. This made their final gallery absolutely stunning and the photos simply focused on their lovely connection. Since the tall grass field that typically offers some great composition possibilities was shorter than normal, the couple could walk through the field not worrying about the grass blocking their faces. The final photos ultimately showed the love they emoted to one another with simple glances. Even though there were no leaves on the trees along the paths we took some photos on, the open scenery to let the sky become the backdrop became the perfect setting for a variety of images.

The best surprise by far, was one tree that decided to bloom it’s flowers early! As a photographer who always tries to find the best setting for my clients, I always scout locations leading up to the session. The day before I went to photograph this beautiful couple, there were no flowers on trees. But as I drove through Whitnall Park, one tree sprang to life so we were able to end our session with some beautiful flowering photos. The best part was the bride was game for climbing the tree, with a boost from the groom, which ended up being a photo fit for a fairytale!
If you’re newly engaged and looking to have some beautiful spring photos taken to celebrate, reach out and let’s create some spring magic together!
