I started out on this photography journey because of my love for taking photos and wanting to capture all the special moments as my kiddos grew up. It started when my best friend and I took pictures of each other with film cameras growing up… think senior photos but we were in middle school. Then, my husband and I got a “big” camera for a wedding gift and everything sort of spiraled from there. Friends started asking me to take their family photos and I realized, I might be better at this than I think so why not make my passion into my career.
While everything in my business began with family and senior photography (which I still really enjoy), I found my real prowess lies with being a branding photographer for small businesses. Family photography requires a patience and going with the flow which, as a mother of two, I have a knack for but there’s nothing quite like having a plan and following through for strategic marketing imagery. My type A personality thrives in situations where I can curate a well thought out plan and refer back to a shot list during a photo session.

And it’s even more of an honor to be able to collaborate with a fellow photographer! When I first met Melissa of MelMarie Photography, I knew we would be great friends who could bounce business ideas off each other and lift each other up. We first worked together during a family session because she had always been behind the camera (like most moms) and wanted to be in photos to freeze time with her little one. As a photographer herself, she had collaborative ideas during her photo session but still took time to sit back and enjoy the time with her family.

When she asked me to help her with marketing images to enhance her brand, of course my answer was a resounding yes!! Even though she excels at being a photographer herself, she still went through my whole small business branding process of diving deep into her business and reflecting on the clients she wants to serve and the products she offers. Like many small businesses I’ve worked with, she was amazed by the thorough questionnaire that made her look beyond the surface of her business and define what makes her unique. There were questions that she had never thought of which helped her express the client she most wanted to serve and what made her stand out as a photographer.
Our strategy calls furthermore helped her define her brand and helped me ensure I was highlight what made her stand out from other family photographers. These calls gave her a chance to give me feedback about the storylines I was creating about who Melissa is and how she shows up in her business. She is a mom-preneur with a bubbly personality and avid coffee drinker. All merely snippets of her bigger picture story that we were able to highlight with a quick one-hour brand session.
