One of my favorite things about being a family photographer is getting to watch little ones grow up right in front of my camera. I get to photograph tiny newborn fingers and toes, first smiles, wobbly first steps, and before we know it, they’re off to preschool and beyond. It’s one of the greatest joys of what I do!
Which is exactly why I introduced started hosting Birthday Mini Sessions in 2025. The idea came from seeing a need among my families. I had several clients reaching out because they wanted special photos to celebrate their child’s birthday but didn’t necessarily need a full family session. While first birthday cake smash sessions have always been popular, I started thinking “why do we only celebrate this milestone once?”
The truth is, our children change so much every single year, especially during those early years. Their personalities become bigger, their smiles change, they lose those sweet baby cheeks, and they grow into the little people they’re becoming. These moments are so fleeting.
As a mom myself, I make a point to take photos of my own children every year on their birthdays. Looking back at those images and seeing how much they have changed in just twelve short months is something I treasure. I wanted to create an easy way for other parents to have those same memories. That’s where Birthday Mini Sessions come in!
These quick and fun sessions are designed entirely around your child. Whether they’re turning one, two, five, or ten, we’ll capture who they are in this season of life. Their giggles, their expressions, their personality, and all of the little details you never want to forget!
While these sessions have become especially popular among my newborn families celebrating that exciting first birthday milestone, my hope is families will continue the tradition year after year.
