If you’ve been around here for any amount of time, you probably know I have an undergrad degree in music theatre performance so the milestone I’m talking to you about today has a bit of a double meaning… It’s the title of one of my favorite musicals and a shocking revelation. I have now been in the photography business for The Last 5 Years!
What started as a dream has grown into a business that has allowed me to serve hundreds of families, couples, seniors, and small business owners here in Greendale and throughout the Milwaukee area. I’ve had the absolute honor of documenting growing bellies and then first birthdays. Engagements that turned into wedding days. Tiny toddlers who now run up to me like old friends at their annual session. Clients who once felt like strangers and now truly feel like friends.
Five years. That feels big.
As I reflect during this slower winter season, my heart keeps coming back to one thing: gratitude! Because this milestone isn’t just about me. It’s about you! The families who trusted me with your brand-new babies, the couples who invited me into the most intimate moments of their wedding day, the seniors who showed up ready to celebrate who they are right now, and the small business owners who allowed me to help tell their brand stories.
You have supported me through price changes, new offerings, mini session experiments, studio days, outdoor chaos, reschedules, weather pivots, and probably more dad jokes than anyone should have to endure. And you kept coming back!
One of the greatest joys of these past five years has been watching your stories unfold. The wobbly first steps. The missing front teeth. The growing confidence. The expanding businesses. The anniversaries. The second and third babies. The pets who somehow always steal the show.
As a photographer specializing in families with small children, but also offering branding, wedding, and senior photography, I’ve learned that no matter the type of session, it all comes down to connection. My job has never just been to take photos. It’s to create a space where you feel comfortable enough to be yourselves. Where your kids can play. Where your business personality shines. Where your love feels natural. Where your senior feels celebrated.
Photography sessions can sometimes feel like one more thing on a very full calendar. Schedules are busy. Budgets matter. Life moves fast. That’s why I’ve always tried to make sessions feel less like a chore and more like an experience… something you’ll actually enjoy while we’re creating images you’ll treasure for years.
Because capturing those smiles, little quirks, and unfamiliar giggles (usually thanks to some truly questionable dad humor) shouldn’t feel overwhelming. Whether it’s energetic kiddos, a reluctant dad, a family dog who thinks they’re the main character, or a business owner stepping in front of the camera for the first time, I’m here to make it feel easy.
With another year under my belt, I’m not just celebrating a business anniversary. I’m celebrating community. I’m celebrating trust. I’m celebrating the privilege of doing work that matters. Because these moments you invite me into are once-in-a-lifetime moments.
