One of the most common questions I get from new parents when booking a newborn session is where the photos should take place. While studio sessions can be beautiful, I’ve found that some of the most meaningful and heartfelt newborn images happen right at home. Especially those that happen in the nursery you curated for your new addition!
I recently photographed a sweet new family of three after they welcomed their first child and we spend the entire session in the nursery. It was the perfect space for celebrating their new addition! The room was beautifully decorated with floral décor on the wall, a cozy glider chair in the corner, and a gorgeous area rug that tied everything together. Despite staying in just one room, we were able to get so much variety because of how thoughtfully the space was put together. The rug even became the backdrop for some gently posed photos. Giving a slightly more polished, studio-like look while keeping baby comfortable in her own environment.
A well-designed nursery can offer everything we need for a beautiful and complete newborn session. It’s not just about aesthetics, though… photographing in your home adds layers of meaning to the images. The nursery is the space you carefully planned during those final months of pregnancy. The room where you rock your baby to sleep and where so many of those special first moments unfold. Capturing your baby in that space tells a story that’s deeply personal and unique to your family.
If you’re expecting and dreaming of a newborn session that feels relaxed, natural, and filled with love, I’d love to chat with you!
