Some stories really do come full circle. I first met this family when their oldest son was just a few months old at my first annual Flower Farm Mini Session. Since then, I’ve had the joy of seeing them for some wonderful milestone photos as their family grew—first one boy, then two, and now, a brand-new little sister.

I’ll never forget their fall family photo session in 2024 when in the middle of photos, they pulled out a tiny “mic drop” onesie to announce baby number three. Big brothers had the classic “original” and “remix” shirts to go with it. We all laughed about how, with their track record, it had to be another boy. A few weeks later, after their final gallery had already been delivered, the mom messaged me to ask if I could add a little pink to one of their photos because surprise… this time they were welcoming a girl!

Their session took place in their beautiful home, the one they built with plenty of space for their family of five (plus their lovable pup). Photographing them there felt so fitting. Their walls already had prints from past sessions, telling the story of how far they’ve come.

Like most families with toddlers, the day was lively and full of energy… and a few tears as the middle child was not interested in having photos taken. With some patience and trying a variety of bribes and other tactics, we finally got that ultimate Christmas photo with everyone looking! Outside of the chaos, we captured big smiles, silly moments, and some sweet pauses when everyone slowed down to snuggle. When the boys were ready to be done, we used the soft indirect light in the dining space for some simple portraits of baby girl on her own.

The best part about in-home newborn sessions like this is they’re relaxed, personal, and true to your family. You don’t just get photos of your baby, you get memories of what life looked like when you first brought your new addition home to the rest of the family.

If you’re expecting, I’d love to help you capture this season for you and your family. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to chat about what an in-home newborn session could look like for your family and what to expect from your session when I see you on the other side of the lens!
