After being a photographer for over three years, I’ve come to realize one of my favorite things about being in business is the people I’ve met and then continue to see year upon year. These repeat customers have become more than just another family I photograph… they become friends! I love seeing people and getting the chance to catch up about how the year or last few months have gone. It is also so rewarding to watch families grow and change and my business and I do the same. There’s something especially fulfilling about reconnecting with clients for milestone sessions, capturing not only how their little ones have grown but also the beautiful bond between family members that continues to deepen.
This summer I was so lucky to see a family that has been with me from the beginning to photograph their son’s first birthday! What made this session particularly meaningful was that it was held at the same location where we captured their maternity photos just a little over a year prior at Retzer Nature Center in Waukesha, WI. It felt like coming full circle as we revisited spots where we celebrated the excitement of their little one’s arrival and now, here he was – a bright, energetic (almost) toddler exploring the world and nature around him.
We had the chance to recreate some poses from the maternity session, this time with the couple’s sweet boy out in the world. They even brought along a leather recliner chair we used during their newborn session for a precious memory of how he had grown throughout the year. The joy and love in this family was unmistakable and the experience was more than just a photo session – it was a celebration of their journey as a family. These are the moments I cherish and remind me why I love what I do.
