Let me ask you something: have you ever walked into a place and immediately known you'd be back… again and again?! That’s exactly how I felt the first time my family stumbled across For the Love of Flowers Farm in Franksville, WI. It started as a sweet little outing during the summer of 2020 (because what else could we do?) and has now blossomed into one of my all-time favorite places to both photograph AND be photographed. Yes, even the photographer gets in the frame sometimes.


Over the past few years, this peaceful pocket of beauty just outside of Greendale has become a go-to spot for family sessions, my popular Flower Farm Minis, and most recently, the brand-new (and totally adorable) Tree Lot Minis. Choosing the right location for your family session can feel like choosing a birthday party theme for a toddler: it sounds simple until you're six Pinterest boards deep and still not sure what they’ll love (and let’s be honest, tolerate). I get it! You want something beautiful, but not too formal, photo-ready but kid-friendly, and ideally… something different than just "the woods" or "a park bench."


Through years of scouting and experimenting, I’ve found a handful of truly special locations that hit all the marks, and For the Love of Flowers Farm is at the top of the list when it comes to warm-weather beauty and versatility.

Why I Love For the Love of Flowers Farm

Rows (and Rows!) of Seasonal Color

From July through early October, this place is an explosion of colorful blooms. Zinnias, cosmos, sunflowers - oh my! These vibrant rows create the dreamiest backdrops that turn even the simplest family hug into a frame-worthy memory. The best part? No artificial props needed - the flowers are the magic!


Every summer, new sections bloom, which means your session gets a slightly new look each year. That’s a huge bonus for families who come back for yearly photos or like to update their prints seasonally.

 

Kid-Friendly Layout and Rustic Touches

Imagine your toddler perched on a flower-stuffed vintage truck or giggling alongside a wooden fence tailor-made for climbing and sitting. Add a field of tall grasses that glow golden during sunset and you've got a photographer’s playground.


The setup is unintimidating for kids because it feels like playtime more than picture time. You’ll hear me say this often: the less pressure, the better the photos! Natural movement, sweet interactions, and plenty of space to run make it perfect for capturing genuine family connection.

 

A Photographic Evolution (With Some Personal Milestones Too)

What started for us as a simple tradition, picking flowers once a summer, slowly became a part of my business story too. The first time I photographed client minis there, I knew I had struck gold!


Since those early days, I've taken annual photos of my own kiddos among the flowers (a tradition I'm oddly emotional about), and this year, we finally booked our own family shoot there. Yes, I was the mom making sure my kids' outfits coordinated and sweating a little about behavior. A totally full-circle moment.


They’ve even expanded the use of the farm later into the year with evergreen trees, which gave me the perfect excuse to launch my first-ever Tree Lot minis. It felt like Christmas came early! And yes, I plan to make those minis a new annual tradition.

 

It Feels Like a Hidden Gem

Located just outside of Greendale in Franksville, this flower farm offers all the picture-perfect beauty without the crowds you'd find at more well-known spots. It's still intimate and off-the-radar enough to keep sessions peaceful and distraction-free… except maybe from a rogue bee or farm cat trying to get in on the action.


Bonus: because it’s a functional flower farm, you can even schedule your session when the "you-pick" portion is open. After your session, grab some blooms to take home. Your kiddos can feel like their job isn't done until they’ve picked the biggest flower in the patch. It’s the sweetest reward.
